Latin American Missions

The Marshfield church of Christ has supported the Latin American missions since the mid 1980's and some of our members longer than that. Latin America Missions had its beginning in 1958 when a small group of Christians traveled to Panama. Those involved in the this ministry ministered to the physically and spiritually sick by going to Latin America and taking doctors, health care workers, medical supplies, and plenty of volunteers to preach and teach the Word of God in the canal region. Those traveling there realized the need to treat the body as well as the need to treat the soul.

As souls were saved the men embarked on a plan to teach the new Christian men in the area to teach the Word of God to others, and thus, in 1963,  the Pan American Bible Institute was established and men from all parts of Panama came there to be taught how to teach others. (2 Tim 2:2)

From there the Word of God spread out to and through the Latin American community, and the call was heard and met to take the gospel to all areas of Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and finally to Peru and later to Columbia and Argentina.

The gospel was taught, Bibles and religious literature in Spanish provided, churches built, wells dug, and construction crews sent for disaster relief and construction needs. The campus of the Bible School of the Americas expanded from one small classroom to four campuses in Panama, Peru, Columbia and San Blas. The Children of the Americas became a reality housing and caring for the needs of homeless and orphaned children. From no preachers there are now more than 80 men well trained in the Panama region alone preaching the gospel and teaching the children as well as the families living there.

As of 2008 through this 50 year old ministry there has been 50 years of reaching, 50 years of teaching, 50 years of preaching, thousands of souls saved, hundreds of preachers trained, and hundreds of congregations established. We are happy to be a part of this work for the Lord.
