TIMES ARE CHANGING
by Paul D. Fisher February 10, 2002
This past week one of the local television stations ran a news
item about how some
denominational churches in the Springfield area were accepting homosexuals
and lesbians
into their worship services. This follows trends in some denominations
to make people who
follow this lifestyle as leaders in some congregations. The television
station asked for people's
opinion and later showed some responses that were backing this trend.
They were pushing
the idea that times were changing the way churches looked at what was
once considered a
sinful lifestyle. Since society was accepting the so-called alternate
lifestyle then churches
should also accept the alternate lifestyle as no longer sinful.
This is nothing new, society in general has never followed God's
will and has often tried to
make God's people accept society over God. As Christians we can never
allow society to
dictate to us what we are to accept as right or wrong instead of God's
word. We have known
for years that many denominational churches have compromised God's
word so that they
could be more conformed to society's wants and wishes. As Christians
we cannot compromise
with anything that is condemned by God's word!
Society may claim that if we do not compromise then we are narrow
minded and bigoted.
They may even claim that we do not have the love of God in our hearts
if we do not accept those
who continue in an alternate lifestyle. Remember this is the same society
that claims we should
accept murder of unborn children as alright because many in our society
do not want to take responsibility for their own actions.
Yes, times are a changing. Many things are no longer considered
sinful that just a few years
ago even our society would have condemned. Even so, that does not change
the fact that sin
is still sin in the eyes of God, whether society likes it or not. We
should be like God and Jesus
and love the sinner (because we all are sinners) but not the sin! May
God grant us the strength
to always stand up for what is right and true!
