THE GOSPEL STILL IS POWERFUL
by Paul D. Fisher

This last week I witnessed again the power of the gospel as revealed in Romans 1:16, on many people in Peru, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." I personally conducted many Bible studies with people who knew very little about the Bible. As we directed both men and women, young and old in reading God's word for themselves, many for the first time, almost all of them understood what they needed to do in order to receive forgiveness of sins during just one study. Several were baptized, from ages 14 to 87 and the Lord added them to His church and kingdom (Acts 2:47).
One man as he read the scriptures said, "If this is true, then the priests and cardinals have been lying to us. I encouraged the man to read the verse again and he accepted Matthew 16:13-20, for what it truly reveals about Jesus building His church on the confession that Peter made that "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" and not upon Peter personally. Many of those who were baptized were in some cases within a few hours bringing others to us to study God's word. We studied in the streets, from house to house and in public meetings with God truly bringing the increase.  Sadly, Satan has also been very busy in Peru. For every person we baptized, there were four or five who wanted to be but were not willing at that time to stop living in sin.  Pray for those people, because the fields are truly white unto harvest and may we also redouble our evforts to reach the people of Webster county with the gospel which is the power of God unto salvation.
